Disclaimer: This is not a hate post. I've been a Nokia user myself for years. It's just an account of what I feel about the past which does NOT reflect my hatred for this product(s).
Last night while driving, I used Google Maps (on Android) to find my way out of absolutely nowhere. I was dead stuck in a loop. Apparently I kept missing a driveway due to poor infrastructure and lighting. While on the way home, I did some thinking. What if this happened 4 years ago? When I owned a smartphone which could only browse wap pages. Would I be out of this deadlock? Then, I thought to myself, what the fuck was Nokia doing all these years? (2003-2010). I had a Nokia back then ( I don't remember the exact model). Nokia has been robbing our money blindly. I have some strong points to support this-
1. They never had a major software update in almost 6 years.
2. Their innovation was limited to hardware, especially the camera where people failed to understand that digital cams are in fact cheaper.
3. They made continuous profit without much R&D. Seriously its like their creative team took an awfully long vacation.
4. They failed to foresee the future and kept on making low cost devices completely focusing on profits and not a grain of innovation (software wise).
5. Imagine the profit they made all this years? All they did was manufacture the product according to a random design. Production cost was almost negligible.
Can you imagine the years of getting delivery reports as a new message and how painful it was to navigate the phone as data kept on piling? Same old home screen, messaging app (regardless of how how costly your phone is), the list is endless. I'm just saying if they did some market research, hired some quality designers/developers they could have still at least had a chance with Android and iOS. Instead all they did was pairing with WP7 (hardly 2% of the population use WP7, it's a beautiful OS but lacks the UX).
I wrote this article because it's just sad to see a good brand name going down the drain. They killed Meego which was a promising venture for them. Anyways, good luck Nokia. You have a bunch of really hard competitors.

I also thought that nokia creates a new magic with MEEGO...
ReplyDeletebut that couldn't happened...
Yup, sad!!
